Beware of Registry Patrol

Apr 12, 2006 1:53AM PDT

I purchased this on line (unlock key) and they offered a free spyware program.

The program also had a glitch and did not work properly.

After two weeks and no help e-mails I found out by them requiring payment through Pay-Pal for the key code (not actual physical item) I was screwed. A neat scham in my opinion. They got my money I got a program that don't work.

They got my $27.00, I got a program that don't work and their offer of a free bonus Spy Shield would not download.

They have an online help that hasn't been on line for two weeks.

Don't purchase this or anything from them. You are on your own!

Registry Patrol - DON'T waste your money to register!
Mar 1, 2009 12:15PM PST

I bought Registry Patrol and paid to register it. At first, it appeard to work. Then I found a program that appeard to lose its license file. I couldn't even fix it after uninstalling & reinstalling. Then I discovered that settings for three other users on this PC had been lost. Amongst other things, I had to uninstall and reinstall .net to recover from some of the problems.

I emailed Registry Patrol and got an automated response about how important my question was and that they would get back to me within 24 hours. Never heard from them.

I think this program MAY make some improvements to your registry, but it also does so much damage that it's DEFINITELY not worth using (even if it was free!).

ASK THE NERD..........NOT
Mar 30, 2009 12:04PM PDT

DO NOT TYPE IN REGISTRY PROBLEMS IN GOOGLE SEARCH ENGINE, YOU WILL GET 'ASK THE NERD' HE TRYS TO EXPLAIN WHY YOUR HAVING REGISTRY PROBLEMS AND THEN CONVEINTLY GIVES YOU A WEB SITE HE RECOMENDS WHICH IS TA-DA (REGISTRY PATROL).Thousands of people have been suckered into buying Registry Patrol by a nerd and then don't get it or don't recieved what you payed for, I'am one of those kind hearted people... I would not ask a nerd for anythiNg... there paid for advertising the top guns of cyber space on there site, Google need to take that nerd guy out of there search engine. It is costing us 'Hard Working American Consumers' many frustrations for somthing we thought the nerd would give us the answer for free , But 'NO' they send us to Registry Patrol and make life miserable for us, while the guy who owns it is layning on a beach somewhere and collecting our hard earned AMERICAN DOLLARS...ENOUGH IS ENOUGH PEOPLE

The Nerd
Feb 22, 2010 7:14PM PST

Yes, it was The Nerd who convinced me that Registry Patrol would speed up my slow computer and much more. It looked authentic - just download this free programme and later just sign up to the latest full version7. $39.95 USD later and I'm reading all the threads of people like myself who got caught. Somebody has reported that all was fine on his earlier Microsoft programmes but not on the later Vista programme. And I think this is the root of the problem. I can write off my lost cash, but I worry what damage Registry Patrol has done to my already slow system. I would be pleased to hear from any one one of a programme has been tried and tested and works well with Vista.

I got my money refunded in full!

After exhausting both PayPal and the Better Business Bureau, I sent the following email and received a full refund within a few days:

Dear Darren,

On February 14, 2009, I purchased an unlock code for Registry Patrol. Post Media Network charged my credit card us$34.95 through PayPal. My receipt with the unlock code is attached.

Running Registry Patrol on my PC caused significant damage. After running Registry Patrol, my backup program would not run and three other user profiles on the computer were damaged with desktop settings lost. After several days, I determined that Registry Patrol damaged the WMI configuration and .NET 3.5sp1.

The Registry Patrol web site lists a 100% satisfaction guarantee. I am not at all satisfied, will not use the program, and would like a full refund of the us$34.95 that I was charged through PayPal.

For two months since my purchase, I have repeatedly, and unsuccessfully, tried to contact Registry Patrol by phone and email. Aside from an automate response acknowledging my emails, I have received no replies. Following those attempts, I have also tried to resolve this by contacts through PayPal and the Better Business Bureau. Again, I have received no response. In researching this problem, I have found dozens of similar user complaints about the software and lack of response from Registry Patrol.

If I do not receive a non-automated response and a refund within what I deem a timely fashion, I will pursue every consumer action, as well as legal action, that I can against Registry Patrol and Post Media Network.

I have copied myself on this email for my records in the event that I must take further action against Registry Patrol or the Post Media Network.

Thank you for consideration in this matter.

REGISTRY PATROL - SCAM ARTIST
Aug 5, 2010 1:42AM PDT

I too purchased Registry Patrol via Pay Pal and the Reg Patrol 'Administration' people ignore all emails sent to them if 'you inquire about your purchase'. DO NOT buy from these people - they are SCAM ARTIST - they DO NOT DELIVER the product you pay form - even when you send them your receipt/purchase verification. I am going to take this further - it is a matter of principle and people who think they can get away with this are thieves - plain and simple. STEALING IS ILLEGAL.

My story is the same as the vast majority of people on here. I was ripped off in just the same way.

Only it was NINE years ago!!

Week after week for nine years I've been receiving the same stories via cnet.
Whoever is in control of Registry Patrols bank account has amassed a large fortune in this time!

Why can't this criminal scam be stopped?

I will soon delete from receiving posts from cnet as i don't want to hear any more about Registry Patrol!

Having said that PayPay are making money so why should they worry.

Suspect Registry Patrol is a scam
Sep 15, 2009 10:36AM PDT

I purchased online and the price was suppose to be $27.95 but the charge was $37.95 as I had to pay through paypal. I went all the way through the pay pal and NO KEY. I went to the site to get help and they said with in 24 hours, 1st day comes and goes no reply , so I sent it to another address they provided in ad and got automated reply. So I waited an other day and no key and no reply. I contcted my credit card company and disputed charge as well as contacted PayPal and disputed the charge. Either very bad customer service or it is a real scam, which I suspect. Anyone with any sense will avoid this company because if not a scam you will never get any help as they have extremely bad customer service.

What Happened!!!!
Sep 25, 2009 11:12AM PDT

I am deeply concerned about Registry Patrol after reading all of this. I have been a faithful patron of Registry Patrol for the past 4 years and have loved every minute of it; I have recommended this product to many, many friends. Two weeks ago, I started getting an error message and the program would not load. So, I went to the website and downloaded the newer version... 4.0; I previously had 3.0. I still have my unlock key from when I originally purchased the software but could not find anywhere to input the code within the new version.
I am too awaiting on a response from the company and fear now, that I may never receive one. I just wonder if Registry Patrol was recently bought out by another company. I can remember contacting support several years ago and things went great, so I am in shock to read all of these posts. Maybe I will get an answer soon!

Reg Patrol and BBB in Canada
Sep 27, 2009 7:06AM PDT

I just filed a report with the Better Business Bureau of Canada on this company. I couldn't believe that they didn't come up in their database. But, anyway...perhaps if more people filed official complaints they may re-evaluate their business practices....or maybe not. All I can do is try though.

I don't want to repeat typing, so I will just briefly say:

To stop the scammer, you have to ask the host and the domain registrar of the site to bring it down. Usually they will comply after seeing a court order or an injunction against the site. Find a lawyer to get one. They will advise you on what to do. In US, you should contact your nearest D.A.

I have been caught too. I too thought with having a paypal account I felt secure that they would be a proper company that you could trust.
How wrong I was, I spoke to a paypal member who said there is nothing they can do. They need more complaints before they will investigate the matter. How stupid that is... why should they worry they are getting paid. I would say they are aiding and abetting a crime.

I just wish these sites could be closed quicker I will not trust paypal again removing my bank details as soon as they transfer my money over to their customer REGISTRY PATROL....ALIAS POST MEDIA NETWORK.

I also have problems with Registry Patrol. I have the key but the lock icon does not open for me to enter it. I've contacted customer support on four occassions even providing my account information. New twist
Oct 23, 2009 11:11PM PDT

I posted, or at least replied to a thread yesterday and my post was either not posted or it was removed. Nothing I said was offensive.

That aside.
Here's my thinking of this scam. First of all I went through all the hoops that everyone else here did. Several emails and finally sent a registered letter to the company. (just want my refund) I also asked the company why they have no communications with their customers yadi, yadi.

Possibly more conjecture but here goes.

While they may appear to supply a "contact us" for sales or for support, those alledged emails may be dead ends and don't really exist. Or they go into a file 13 that know will ever read and have no intentions of ever reading. Or. maybe they are real and might respond if they feel like it.

As for the software, the program itself, we all know that anything is possible. Look at the randomness of the one-armed bandits in casinos around the world.
Would you people agree that it would not take much to create/ build a program that "appears" to do something, but in essence really does nothing.
I'm suggesting that Registry Patrol and possibly some other programs have this randomness within its program that flips all these numbers around and around but they mean nothing and do nothing. This program may also have NO REAL CONNECTION to your computer's core and all is just superficial. Snake oil at its best. Those on here that said it worked either work for the company or think that the snake oil really worked by seeing THOSE NUMBERS do what they're really intended to do...nothing. So when you go to correct what it said it found, all you're doing is resetting to zero and then starting the "game" over again.
So, with Registry Patrol you paid good money for the opportuntiy to watch numbers do nothing but gives you that warm-n-fuzzy feeling that all is now ok. How many here have received one of those jokes where you can try your luck at beating a game. Usually, one of your friends sends these joke emails. This is the same basic program with some seemingly reality thrown in to convince. Dollar store with fake brand name logos, fake $20 dollar bills etc. As much as a hoax and fraud as this is, someone actually came up with a convincing story.

Disclaimer: this is conjecture on my part but after seeing that it did nothing to improve my PC's performance, then I have the right to suggest that this program is a fake/fraud (you name it).

If someone proved to me that this program really does work, then I will remove any/all allogations and opologize to all involved. Really, how many on this forum are true IT people? Few of course, but we can certainly tell when our car runs better or not and by today's standards our computers as well.

As for the BBB. I went through them many years ago about a company totally unrelated and they (BBB) did nothing. They only notify and if the company in question have no scrupples and could care less, then nothing gets done. They will defraud the public until the courts shut them down. By then they'll have a plan "B' to start over again under another venture and we'll have lost more money until we wake up or the laws are changed. In the mean time it's a free country.

Anyone here reading this has the right to disagree with my claims/suspicisions. But I would like to hear more from you folks based on what I said.

Definitely a Scam

RE: New twist
Oct 24, 2009 1:33PM PDT

I know from personal experience that Registry Patrol isn't a program that does nothing. When I ran it, several other programs on my PC stopped working. All but one were fixed by reinstalling them. One required several iterations with a very helpful help desk to determine that one of the .net installations had been damaged by Registry Patrol. After I repaired that, the final program started working again. There is a lot more loss involved here than just the cost of the program. In my case, several hours of repair time were also incurred.

Oct 30/09 update

Some of you might recall one gripe with Registry Patrol. After two emails and not finding their phone number listed, I decided to send a registered letter right to their business address. That was Monday. Today is Friday October 30/09. I received in the mail my returned registered letter (unopened) and on the front it is stamped "MOVED" and "ADDRESS UNKOWN".
Ok, so I've written off my loss and don't expect my money back. BUT !!!
I will continue to search until I hear an absolute answer as to what is taking place.
Based on conjecture only. I think they're working out of a "phone-booth-operation" (minus the phone), which was the initial intention and I still stand by my theory that the software package is nothing short of a twisted digital game that makes people think that it's doing something, when in fact it does nothing...IMO

If YOU had a legitimate business and a solid customer base and wished to continue to make money and expand on reputation, then would you not want those variables in place, Address, phone number and respond to emails and BS software?

It's not so much about the money. But multiply their income by thousands of us and it becomes a different matter. It's the fact that they ripped me off and way too many other people off.

The more you and I can do, then maybe future matters might think twice. My next move will be the BBB

Your input and feedback would be welcome
