Beware of JAVA d/l's from non-Oracle sources

Mar 16, 2015 4:55AM PDT

If there seems to be one pgm. that gets users in trouble by false installs, its JAVA. While, I certainly do accept the window pop-up to update, that's a direct WWW install from the true source(cross-fingers). However, if you search for JAVA updates to install offline or standalone mode, here you find various file sources, which one has to be cautious of before accepting any file and any so-called download manager s/w as well. These may be innocent or the beginning of an issue so take heed. Even so-labeled .ORG links maybe false or not to be trusted, watch where you go, again Oracle is the prime source.

So why do they push the Ask toolbar so hard?

For me, I'm going with Ninite. No toolbars.

Avast has that feature- s/w update

I've used this at times but also it basically verifies I need the update as well. In that regard any pop-up like so-called "flash notices" one could be wary of. adios -----Willy Happy
