Question

Better deal?

Aug 9, 2017 10:33AM PDT

Alright,

I've decided I'm going to get the ASUS ROG GL502 VM. I'm trying to decide between the slightly older model my school is offering or the newer model I can buy from the Microsoft store.

The older model comes with a two-year warranty and a gaming mouse. The newer model looks to be a fair bit faster and comes with a 1060 GTX graphics card.

The price difference is small so I guess the question is would you rather have the newer model with a better graphics card or the older model with accessories and a two-year warranty?

This will be used for school and occasional gaming just so you know.

Thanks.

Comparison
Aug 9, 2017 10:52AM PDT

The older model has a GTX 970.

The only differences I can spot are the following.

Processor: Both come with i7 but the older model has speeds up to 3.50 GhZ.
Graphics: Older model comes with a 970 GTX while the newer one has a 1060.
Weight: Newer model is 5.4 pounds while the older one is 4.4 pounds.
Extras: Older model comes with gaming mouse and two-year warranty.

Newer model number is ROG Strix GL502VM-UH71.
Older model number is this one I believe: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Asus-ROG-Strix-GL502VM-Notebook-Review.187341.0.html

Disregard that link but like I said, those are the main differences between the two laptops.

If used, don't buy.

Its just an older model. Its brand new and not open box or refurbished.

It better be a great deal.

My advice is to go with the 1060. You can find benchmarks out there but my nod is to the current model for many reasons.

I should be totally fine with a 1-year warranty, right?

I mean my last laptop lasted years without issues even on an extended warranty (Apple Care).

Appreciate the advice.

Always a choice.

Here we don't get the extended warranties. I have an Asus ROG that is now 7 years old. I'm a little amazed.
