Betamax tapes to DVD

Jul 24, 2005 2:35AM PDT

My nephew just told me he had a lot of old 'home' Betamax tapes but no machine to play them with. Any suggestions on possible options. Did a google search and saw that their are companies that transfer Beta tapes to DVD for about $25 each. Is there maybe a machine he could buy to transfer from beta to VHS and then to DVD or any other combination. Just looking for all options. He does have a DVD player. I have a computer with a DVD burner, and I also have an audio video amp, could hook up maybe other equipment to do stuff.
Thanks in advance.

It's time to see if some machine can be found that you can connect to your CAPTURE CARD to make the capture as the first step to DVD.

Or you can look into those many DVD set top recorders and connect it directly.

yes video

I used Yes video to convert a few beta tapes. Worked out well. They did a good job and price was 19.95 - walgreens. Yes video works through Wlagreens, Target, many others.

Came in nice case with screenshots on the cover.

If I understand the post...

" My nephew just told me he had a lot of old 'home' Betamax tapes but no machine to play them with "

the real problem is you need a betamax deck to play back the tapes...there are tons of ways to record the tapes to dvd including a straight up $200.00 home dvd burner/player but untill you get a playback device it wont matter how you plan recording the dvd's.

Just thought there might be a plan B. He has a lot of old tapes, so the first step has to be to find a betamax player and then go from there.
Thanks for feedback.
