Question

Best workstation laptop for productivity and minor gaming ?

Apr 15, 2017 11:30PM PDT

Hello all! I'm needing to get a laptop for school/work very soon and was hoping to get some of your suggestions to help me make my decision. I haven't looked into new PC and laptop hardware in ages and im just now discovering "2 in 1s" and some of the more recent technology. As I've shortly begun researching different products and brands, I came across lenovo's thinkpads/ideapads and whateverpads, which seem like possible options.
The laptop will mainly be used in class and as a workstation. What are some possible laptop and hardware options that will increase productivity and performance issues when dealing with multiple large applications and processes?
Having a decent GPU is always a bonus, but it is not priority number 1.
My budget is around 1200-1500$.
Thank you for your time and any suggestions are welcome!

Answer
Dell Precision for Work!
Apr 16, 2017 6:17PM PDT

can you be more specific on what exactly are you going to do with the laptop?

Why do you need a workstation? These are expensive and very heavy not very useful for most college students.

Leaving that aside the best workstation would always have a lot of RAM + decent GPU, the rest comes with the package...all of them have quad core or at least i7 processors for the heaviest apps.

I'd go with the dell precision or the dell xps 15, the precision being a real monster for 3D CAD Work...or anything intensive for that matter. Not so much for games as the dell xps 15 since the graphics card are both different.

the precision has a graphics card for actual real work.....in 3D...no matter what kind.
the dell xps 15 can do 3D Work, CAD, Animation and all of that but not 100% as good as the precision (but i'd say pretty close though) but is also more ideal for gaming since it has a gaming card after all,
