Best wireless router for VoIP, MIMO technology?

Sep 14, 2005 12:46PM PDT

I've read that VoIP does not work with the Belkin Pre-N Router. Has anyone used VoIP with the Belkin or another router with MIMO technology?

I've been using VoIP with the D-Link DI-624 and it's been working fine as long as the router held the signal. The router has been dropping the signal so often that we are forced to replace and upgrade it. The VoIP works great when connected directly to the cable modem, and so does our computer. Any suggestions for a router?

Odd.

I haven't heard that one, but there are some that can't get email to work with wifi either. Let's chalk this up to configuration or dated firmware issues.

The 624 may have dated firmware so my question is what version do you have in it?

Looking for VoIP with MIMO Technology

Yes, I probably do need to update the firmware on my DI-624. I'm on 2.5, and I see that 2.7 is available. I'll try that to see if the performance improves.

If it doesn't resolve the connection problem (lost signal), then I will upgrade to a router with MIMO technology as long as the VoIP will work.

I read a review from someone who recently purchased the Belkin Pre-N Router. He said that his VoIP would not work with the router. He had to connect the VoIP directly to the cable modem. And then add a separate connection to his router from the cable modem. Once he resolved his problem, he like the router for the speed and wireless range.

Still a repeating refrain.

Too many out there claiming "it doesn't work" yet they don't check for updates. I agree it would be nice if the product was not delivered with a defect.

I also think that wifi will drop in spite of any wifi router you pick. You are in the wide open and interferring signals will cause a drop. Nature of the beast so it's hard to get a sympathetic ear.

Their latest firmware is doing great. It's one of the issues I encounter daily. Check that firmware version.
