I have a HP Pavillion 6823w with Win 7 Home Premium OP and want to know the best model Webcam for my computer that I'd be able to stay in touch with grandkids, clear video and audio and the best place to get the Webcam.

Try watching a few LifeHacker episodes.

They use a few models and are changing from time to time. One of them uses a DSLR camera to a BlackMagic HDMI to PC interface and it's really really great. Close to "best." But I bet they invested over a thousand.

Nod to the 100 buck range Logitechs for better than average but "best" will push us into a few thousand bucks.

Answer
Recently bought a Logitech

after browsing some review sites. I could offer a link but it might not be appropriate in that Cnet also does reviews. We got a c920 for 70 bucks at Staples. It will be used in a school for recording and broadcasting as soon as I can choose and install a good encoder. We also have a MS lifecam 6000 which is fairly decent. Both are USB and will fit a tripod. I'd recommend a tripod mountable unit as opposed to one that just clamps or hangs on the edge of the screen. Much will depend on what you want to pay but you can do very well for under 100 with some 50 dollar units that get good reviews. One think we're finding is that not all are compatible with all software. We've had some problems getting the Logitech to work with MS Expression 4 though it works fine with the older MS Media Encoder 9. In any event, if you plug into google "webcam reviews 2014" (no quotes needed), you'll find plenty. Good luck.

Thank you for your input, also. I will try your suggestion. I'm hoping to use something like Skype. It helps to know what you are using the camera for and the Tripod suggestion sounds good too.
Thanks.
