Best way to upconvert DVDs?

Jul 16, 2009 5:33AM PDT

IN lieu of my former post, my HDTV is working and looking good. However, I found out that my Xbox 360's upscaling is actually better (at 1080p) than the new LG upconvert DVD player I just bought!

My question is: Is there a better way to upconvert?

I like the Xbox just fine, HOWEVER, I'm under the assumption that this could where out the 360's optical drive and shorten it's lifespan? Is this true? It's the newest PRO model (the one with the Jasper chip) so I don't know if that makes a difference.

And finally....how are blue ray players for upconvert?

Thanks!

Blu Ray players will do it better

AFAIK on the Xbox it's more of an afterthought than a focus of the device. Try something like an Oppo for a player which does very well at upconverting. I can only imagine their relatively new BD player does very well too.

Try a different cable. The only 'con' I could find is a person who was using a cheap HDMI cable. Said he got a better cable and picture improved dramatically!
