Best way to keep standard desktop PCs clean in machine shop?

I am looking into doing some work for a customer that is running 3-4x PCs in a machine shop. They are having problems with a fine oil mist mixed with fine metallic particles getting into their computers.

I have looked at industrial enclosures but they do not say anything about oil mists, just dust.

Someone has suggested a mineral oil submerged PC. I wanted something a little more tested, approved, and ready off the shelf than this. I know these have held together for years without issues but these are missing critical computers, not novelties for the company.

Size is also an issue. Any enclosure cannot be much larger than a standard desktop PC.

There are industrial models today

That don't use fans. finds them in the about 1K range. Any custom job will run more than that.

However I know that prices have plunges so hard that my clients don't worry about the lifespan of the PC anymore. They treat them as expendable items. You get some 499 buck machine, put it to work and replace it in 4 or so years.

I suggested a disposable machine and that wasn't taken well.

I suggested a disposable computer and they didn't like that option. It sounds like they are going through decent i5 units within 6 months. I guess it is in a production environment and gets quite dirty. They expect 5-10 years out of a computer and don't even like the idea of replacing them every few years.

Something with an SSD is a must if you ask me. I know hard drives have filters but I always seem to see them die in units owned by smokers so something must get through.

I am really liking these: No fans and no vents!

A few of my apps run on production lines. They went with hand me down machines from the office area. Their IT wasn't happy and wanted to get industrial but you can guess the price with all the IT input went to many thousand. So back to what they were doing. Use it up, replace when they die. Cheap.

I do some outside mapping work.

I could either get a rugged tablet or notebook but just went cheap as I don't need a ton of power for the GPS data collection it is usually used for.

If it gets trashed, I will dispose of it properly and get another one. It seemed to handle some pretty good rain one time.

Small world.

Was on a team for a bus GPS cellular system. No PCs in the buses or rigs. All custom job. A PC like you noted would have been cheaper in the long run and a lot easier to source.

I actually have two identical models except one is a different color. Besides that, everything is the same except the secondary one has a standard hard drive and the primary an SSD. Both have the OS and all applications loaded. I figure if I trash the one I am using, it will take me 5 minutes to swap the SSD to the new one. Then it is on with business. They are cheapos but get the job done. Now if I was doing serious modeling with them, they would be worthless. For data collection, they are great and cheap.
