Best TV Under $1700 at stores

Dec 28, 2004 5:53AM PST

I am looking to get an HDTV and i was just wondering what some other peoples opinions were about what i should get. I am probably going to go with a tube HDTV in the plus 30" range. not sure if i want wide screen or 4:3. Just wondering what some other peoples ideas are about the wide screen vs standard. Just to let you know i will be using it for watching HDTV broadcast, video games on both xbox and ps2 (of course using the HD connectors) and also a DVD once in a while.

Look at the Sony xs 955 or the xbr...go with widescreen because most DVD's are widescreen and all HDTV is in widescreen..

HDTV under $1700

I agree with irishrulze, I would get 16:9 HDTV. I have seen the Sony 34" XBR with satellite HDTV and the picture is awesome. It's around $2200-2500, though. They make a 30", I think, which is cheaper. Also, the cheaper XS and HS variants are worth a look.

Toshiba makes a CRT 16:9 HDTV sold thru Crutchfield which is also cheaper but I've not seen any reviews. There's also a Panasonic Pure Tau that, while not quite as nice as Sony, is much cheaper (I think WalMart even sells it).
