Best TIME to buy a Nikon

by bec03 / August 30, 2008 1:42 PM PDT

I am looking to purchase a Nikon SLR camera in the near future, and while I am unsure of the exact model I want just yet, I am inquiring on this forum about the best TIME to buy this type of camera. When do new Nikon models typically come out and when are the sales best?

And, while I?m on the subject, any recommendations for a Nikon SLR would be greatly appreciated! The two most important things that I want are an easy and excellent auto mode and a top-notch picture quality (of course) both indoor (with and without a flash) and out.

Thanks in advance for all the wonderful advice!

The best time is after you buy one? This truism holds for all products. The takeaway is that you should wait till you can't wait.

Best Time To Buy

Nikon has recently introduced several new DSLR models:
D300, D90, D60

You are not likely to find any bargain prices for any of those.
You might find an older model at a good price:
D200, D80, D50

Which to buy? It all depends upon your budget.

They will all produce top notch picture quality, both indoor (without flash) and out.

Auto mode can not cover all situations, that is why they have manual controls. The more you know about photography, the better the photos will be.

Thank you for the information on the Nikon models.

I do need to break away from the auto mode. I?ve always been somewhat scared to "mess" with the manual controls- there are so many, you know. But, I definitely have the patience to get the perfect shot, so trial and error it shall be. Can you recommend any good photography books for SLR cameras?

Thanks for the advice!

Recent Nikon purchase

I went dSLR shopping this summer and did NOT want to spend a lot. I bought the new Nikon D60 at the end of July. Found it on sale. Shop around, you can get a pretty good deal. I like the small form factor of this camera. I have taken it on two trips and loved shooting with it. The kit lens is fine and there is a 55-200mm zoom at a decent price, too. The VR lenses make a big difference when shooting. The focusing and shutter are quiet and responsive. Pretty nice camera for the price.

The new D90 sounds great, but it's going to cost several hundred more than the D60. The D80, also a few hundred more, gets excellent reviews and was very tempting for me. Just did want/need to spend the extra bucks.

Take the plunge! Good luck!

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
