Question

best tablet for my needs

Jan 9, 2014 11:30PM PST

I want to be able to Skype, Facebook, read email, download books, play games. TV and movies are not top priorities, but okay if it comes ready for that. Budget is right around $400-450, less would be better though. One thing, the lack of a USB port on the iPad bothers me, although I don't know if I would use that, but what if? Also, I probably won't be purchasing a data package, will only be used via WIFI.

A friend and I went looking at the lay of the land so to speak and in the 7 inch market the Nexus 7 and Samsung 7 inch were neck and neck. He was concerned about memory so the Samsung wins that round and was quite cheap here.
"Samsung - Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 - 8GB - White SM-T210RZWYXAR $139.99"

The comment I read at http://reviews.cnet.com/tablets/samsung-galaxy-tab-3/4505-3126_7-35755712.html is good and typical.

For me I'd ignore the memory slot issue (which I did) and get the current Nexus 7 32GB which still beats your price point by about half.

best tablet for my needs

I went through a similar quest 7 months ago, and after a week with an android 7" tablet I returned it and bought the Samsung ATIV Smart PC windows tablet. Although I don't play games, I do a lot of reading, emails, Facebook, video and web surfing. The great thing is I can use Office and take care of some business too. It has an 11" screen, micro SD slot, full size USB, micro HDMI, headphone and microphone ports, a built in stylus pen, webcam and a front camera with LED flash. It also has stereo speakers. I purchased the optional keyboard dock when Staples put them on clearance - it works great and includes a touchpad. I've seen several comparable units from Asus, and Lenovo. Good Luck!

Hi, I got a really good android tablet for x-mas. it's one of those tablets that is more populare in asia i think. it's a 9.7 Inch 3G Android Tablet PC with 1gb ram, IPS Screen, 5MP Camera and 16GB Memory. it's a bit big maybe, but i use it most for netflix and fb, it's not like i try to put it in my pocket anyway Silly

I will suggest you go looking into more unknown brands, they seem to be just as good as any other brand like samsung, except that they are cheaper, and your local store have to order it.

This is the one i got for xmas http://www.androidauthority.com/freelander-pd80-3g-full-review-321432/

you can buy it at http://www.thedifster.com/products/a9-7-inch-3g-android-tablet-pc-with-/

A member was complaining about a model like that. They couldn't get support and no one at XDA had made a better ROM so again, another no-name with no support.
