A new projector may be best. Some have WiFi (WiDi) which removes the cable issue.
In our current setup, we have a desktop computer with a cloned display for the screen and a projector. The VGA going to the projector is connected to a box that has a second VGA input which takes priority over the desktop input if the second cable receives a signal. This leaves a VGA and audio jack connection on the desk for anyone who wants to use their laptop output for the projector.
I'm finding that offering only a VGA input isn't cutting it with modern devices. Although some laptop models still include a VGA output along with HDMI or DisplayPort, some slim models only include mini-HDMI or Mini DisplayPort outputs. /
I'm looking for any switching devices or cabling methods that would act similarly to the current setup, offering as many input options as possible, but keeping the user-side as simple as possible. Unfortunately, as far as I know at this point, we only have access to the ceiling mounted projector's VGA input, as connecting any other way would require running the cable through the conduits, ceiling, and wall covers.
Any advice or direction would be greatly appreciated.
