Best Samsung Blue-Ray player....?

Apr 3, 2009 8:11AM PDT

I need help ASAP. I need to order a TV & a blue-ray player right now for my husband. I told him it was on its way. I was wondering which of Samsungs blue-ray players are the best? & I was also wondering if the BD1500 & BD1600 "up-converts". I dont really know what that means but I was told to make sure it does it. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Best Samsung Blue-Ray player....?

grn910,

The latest Blu-Ray player is the BD-P3600 (which comes with wireless streaming) as well as Netflix. All of the Blu-Ray players upconvert, which means that it plays DVDs (480 resolution) and transforms the signal from Standard Definition to High Definition (720 or 1080 resolution).

Did you need help with the TV also? Let me know, and I can help you pick one out based on your needs, and other forum members can jump in too.

which tv to get help advice
Apr 3, 2009 11:00PM PDT

hi Samsung tech help.

I am remodeling a room. almost done. exterior wall open to studs. Comparing and debating getting the 52 inch 860 or the 55 inch 7000.

I have seen em both last night side by side, and have studied the ports and feature differences and costs.

concerned about quality on the 7000. I can email you directly the few items I asking a tv techie buddie of mine.

thanks

mike413,

Welcome!

I don't answer emails sent to me as a general practice.

If you'd like to post them here, I'd be happy to address them. I'm pretty open about what I can answer, and I'll say if it's something I can't answer.

7000 vs 860 large tv
Apr 4, 2009 10:40PM PDT

Here are questions/thoughts to determine which TV to buy.

Backgroung, I remodeled 3 rooms into 1 larger family type room. removed 2 walls. Right side of room is near lake and mosly all windows! Room is like 24x26ft. I am not sure how to place furniture etc... TV I plan to mount in exterior wall as wall is open to studs now, so hoped to have TV be near smooth screen with drywall we will do. I'd leave inches around TV though for heat, sound taking TV in/out, or for other tv is sell house etc...

here are observation I emailed a buddy regarding the 7000 vs 860:

7000 has all HDMI on side vs 860 1 and 1 in back!
7000 power plug is cord, 860 standard plug that needs 1/2 inch but ok
7000 can turn off white light at bottom 860 no
clearness, sharpness, skin tones or all color better on 860 slightly if user can see or tell??

7000 has more online stuff. can get a device to use it as internet?

the optional Samsung Linkstick that lets you connect to the Internet wirelessly.
can i use tv as screen and internet with a wireless keyboard? humm need mac hooked up to it somehow?

thanks

Still not sure which tv buy cost is $2400 or newer $3300 maybe. $700 more but on $2000 hummm tv for what 10 years? or wait

OH OH 860 gets hot in back!!! 7000 not much at all and saves 40% power!!!

7000 3 inches bigger picture at 55 vs 52 inches. same amount of pixels though? that why not as sharp?

7000 vs 860 large tv
Apr 5, 2009 1:23PM PDT

mike413,

We can probably handle that here.

7000 has all HDMI on side vs 860 1 and 1 in back!

The 860 has I believe 3 rear, 1 side.
The 7000 has HDMI on the side.

7000 power plug is cord, 860 standard plug that needs 1/2 inch but ok

That also is correct. The 860 will extend either out the bottom, or the direct rear of the unit.

7000 can turn off white light at bottom 860 no

Both allow you to turn off the sunset light (bottom middle) if that's what you're referring to.

clearness, sharpness, skin tones or all color better on 860 slightly if user can see or tell??

Subjective, and up to the end user, really. I can't really say how you'll perceive it.

7000 has more online stuff. can get a device to use it as internet?

Yes, a wireless dongle will work for each of them.

The 860 is limited to USA Today's weather, stocks and news.
The 7000 has widgets, and allows you a choice of features and programs that will offer additional content.

the optional Samsung Linkstick that lets you connect to the Internet wirelessly.

Correct. There is a model of the LinkStick that is good for the 2008 models, and a seperate model of the Linkstick that is good for the 2009 models.

can i use tv as screen and internet with a wireless keyboard? humm need mac hooked up to it somehow?

You can hook it up via the VGA input. The A860 will have that, and the the 7000 will also. I wouldn't count on the TV having "internet" features such as a browser, and no keyboard functionality to the actual TV itself is supported.

I hope that helps.
