Best recording device for beginner

Feb 20, 2011 9:53AM PST

Hi,

I'm going to shoot really soon a video that'll be shown at a fashion show on screens.

We're not into big conceptual shots, we just have to do something with a very good quality image.

Since I'm a beginner in the video/camera/film field, I'm confused about what kind of camera I should rent; what kind of recording device would be the best for a novice like me. P2 ? HDV ?, etc.

I'd like to work with a camcorder instead of a DSLR, because I've never used a DSLR before and I'd be uncomfortable to use this type of camera for the first time.

I hope I will have some advices, thank you very much!

a few basics

I would ask the company you are renting from, I am sure they can direct you to the best camera. If you are renting then you should be able to get a good quality camera and not have to worry about cost. The most common brands: Sony, Canon, etc. are all fairly easy to use. I personally like Canon for their lens. Make sure the camera is HD and it is best if it can shoot 1080p resolution. Also consider what editing software you will be using. If you aren't willing to buy the newest software you may have problems uploading your video since HD video is captured in a different format that old software does not work so well with.

choice made

Hi, thank you for your advice. Finally, I'm gonna shoot with a mini-DV camera, the panasonic DVX100. I can rent it for pratically free so it's great. We didn't have the budget to rent a solid camcorder. But I think it's a nice choice, since it shoots in 24p and all.
