That will be a good primer on RAID. In closing, the drives are 5 year designs with a warranty. Anyone can shorten the life by tossing them into a hot box.

What do you guys suggest, I was going with the Diamondmax 10, but some reviews I read said that people have had bad experiences with Maxtors dying out quickly. So, I may be leaning towards another WD Caviar (which is what I have now)
Also, could someone explain to me how exactly RAID works, and if you are able to do it with PATA hd's, and what the benefit is?
Thanks.
