Best MP3 Player for Running

Mar 7, 2006 1:57AM PST

I'm looking for a durable MP3 player for running min. 1G memory. I purchased the MSI 521 and loved it but after 9 months of heavy usage it is not working correctly.

I run 40+ miles a week with this thing through snow, rain and extreme cold or heat and I need an MP3 player that can hold up under these conditions.

From what I've heard from other runners the Ipod Nano is a little delicate for this type of use even with the waterproof case.

I would also like it to have an FM tuner.

Any suggestions?

Sandisk Sansa M250,iAudio U2 or Creative Labs Zen Nano Plus are all good 'basic' 1 GB flash based MP3's.

All basically have the same features. Sansa does not support in-line recording. Sansa is only subscription enabled player of the three. May be minor other items.

I am not qualified to note if any one has substancially better sound that the other 2

Of the 3 I mentioned , I also own the Sansa Sandisk (but I have the M240 2gb).

I also have been pleasently surprised by how much I have like it as well. $ for $ it is the best deal - the 2gb is about the same price as the 1gb for the other two.

I got the sansa sandisk mainly however because I wanted subscription based capability. if you do not need that all three are pretty good (but again sandisk is a bit cheaper I think)

I've got the 1GB and 4GB models, and have had a great experience with them both. I highly recommend them for the price you pay, and what they deliver in terms of performance.
