Best Low Light Camcorder

Jul 6, 2006 8:55AM PDT

I'm looking for a camcorder that has good low light performance.. i see in a lot of cnet reviews that cameras have poor low light performance but they don't seem to mention great low light performance. i know sony has nightvision but I want a camera that has good low light to begin with!! I had a sony IP5 and low light was HORRIBLE and very grainy.

Thanks for any replies

I also understand that most current ratings are (with night assist/nightvision) 0 lux means no light so that should technically be pure darkness and not be able to record without some sort of night vision.

Soooooo what is a great low lux camcorder. I am going to be recording a lot of bar/cafe/club footage and it has to be viewable...

Anything?

Or should i have to wait another 5 years? For low light on small digital cameras?

SONY has just released the 'Exmor R' CMOS sensor designed for low light conditions. It is in the SDR-SX83 standard def model. This model also user rated very good for still photos. MSRP of $399.
16GB flash memory camcorder, 25x optical zoom.

Nightshot

I think most of he sony nightshot cameras still need an external infrared light source for high quality low light to no light situations in my opinion. If you decide to go this route. I know a great external infrared light for under $40 and it works much better than the high priced lights. If you want this info respond and I will get it to you. Good luck.
