Question

Best Laptop screen, performance for image work and "gaming"

Sep 1, 2017 9:32AM PDT

Hello Forum

I'm looking for the best laptop for my work. I edit some pictures, so a great quality screen is a must. It does not have to be PERFECT, but it should be good. In addition, it should be able to perform image editing as well as light gaming as a little Battlefield 1 a few hours a month.
I can see that there are many different options like the Dell XPS 15, i7 7700hq and 1050 GeForce, as well as the Apple 15 "Retina, in addition, there are also some gamer laptops with 1070 graphics cards at the same price. How can it be?

What do you think?

Answer
Is this the old Apple vs other laptop question?

Apple is it's own world. If you need an Apple you know why. At the office we have some developers working on iOS apps and you need the Apple and the cost increase is worth it due to better app income.

But if you are into Windows, Linux and other, you can choose a lot of the other models. The BIG MISTAKE I see a few fall for is the UHD 4K display on laptops. It's great for display and such but outside of the 1080 powered laptops you have to run the game at 1080p to get reasonable performance.

So I like the models you noted along with the Asus ROG lineup.

I use Photoshop and lightroom around 4 hours daily. I guess I could use an Apple, as good as Windows, for my work, and it should be possible to use basecamp (?) to install windows for gaming. So mainly the laptop has to be good at running both lightroom, photoshop with a nice screen for brightness and colour.

The thing I don't like about gaming laptops is the design - the laptop will be used infront of 50+ businessmen, so I can't show up with an 13 year old disco laptop with red, blue and green lights.
For what I've heard the Dell XPS 15 has the best screen, compared to brightness and colour (Maybe there are other models on the market with a better screen), but It could also only be because of the think frame?

My Budget is around 2k USD - but if someone can come up with an laptop to 1k usd that would do my work - Thumps up ..

I'm been looking at models with i7 7700hq, i7 7500u and 8gb - 16 ddr4 ram, Geforce 950m and up to 1070..

PS I know my english is bad.

No one at our office has worried about the gaming laptop

Look.

We know that the gaming laptops deliver the most power for the buck today.

Today I have the Asus Rog with the usual i7, 16GB, 960m and SSD. It's very nice and closer to 1K than 2K.
