Best laptop option

Jul 12, 2017 12:17PM PDT

Fellas,

Thanks for all the advice.

I'm down to four laptops.

MSI GE62-286CA Apache Pro 15.6"
ASUS ROG GL753 17.3"
ASUS ROG GL553 15.6"
ASUS ROG GL753VE-DS74 17.3"

I would really prefer at least a two year warranty and I don't think you can get that with Asus, correct? Hoping to get some good mileage out of this laptop. I've had my current laptop for nearly 5 years. I take good care of them.

Let me know what you think.

Given the criteria.

Remove those from the list. Also, unless this is on a desk, remove the 17 inch models. What's left?

Just two

That leaves the MSI Apache Pro and Asus ROG GL553.

Both 15.6 inch models. MSI comes with a two year warranty and is slightly more expensive.

So what kept the one without the 2 year warranty

On the list?

I use an Asus ROG daily and the oldest ROG we have is just about to hit 7 years. Never in the repair shop but my son wore out 2 keyboards (99 bucks each.) I do minor repairs myself.

He no longer uses is because the GPU can only do DX11. But still works.

So the question is

With tax, the two laptops work out to $1864 (MSI) and $1806 (ASUS).

I just feel more comfortable with a two year warranty that will at least get me through 2 years.

The only laptop that didn't last me many years

Was my last HP. Right out of the box there was an issue, at 3 months HP broke it in their repair system, never fixed it, you can bet I tell folk about that.

For what purpose?

Are you buying your laptop for gaming or office work? if you are gamer get the one that has the highest quality of graphic card. Or the one that can detach and attach the graphic card can be good for you.

Mostly work

Some occasional gaming.

I'm in the radio business. Just finishing an internship at a radio station.

I haven't really had a laptop with impressive specs before. I have a MacBook Pro which has very basic specs but at times it can be slow and a little unreliable. I'm enrolling in a college program for radio broadcasting and a PC is required. The specs they require can all be found on a gaming laptop and as long as I can spend under 2K I might as well spend a little more and go for the best possible option.

They recommend a Toshiba Satellite Pro or Asus ROG GI502.

From the extensive research I've done in terms of best bang for my buck under 2K (Canadian Dollars) those are the two laptops that make the most sense for me. If you have any other suggestions feel free to list some of them.

A two-year warranty is pretty essential as I need the laptop to last at least through my two years of school before I move on to more professional work after my third semester.
