Question

Best laptop for under $1200

by misstester / April 30, 2014 8:53 AM PDT

Hi all,

I'm in the market for a new laptop - my current eMachines laptop was purchased purely for when I was studying, and now that I'm using Photoshop & InDesign regularly, it's starting to slow down.

I'm not wanting to spend too much, but enough that I get something decent. It won't need to travel, but I want it to be light enough to sit on my lap + good battery life. And the screen needs to be large enough for Photoshop work but not so big that it feels clunky. Powerful enough for Adobe Suite & possibly some light gaming ie The Sims.

My main wish list would be: 8GB ram, midweight & 15", intel core i7, full HD, HDMI port - and the touchpad needs a scroll function on the side!

Is there anything out there that you could recomment, that meets most of my wish list - for less than $1200?

Thanks,
Amy

Now pick a few and find the Notebookcheck review and pay attention to the color gamut and notes on the LCD (display.)

You may want to shy away from 15.4 inch 1080 displays due to many can't display some colors without dithering. That's well discussed so strike the Lenovo y510p off the list for now. While it's great IMO your PhotoShop requirement means we want to avoid any flicker/dither displays.

As to the touchpad, try the 2 finger method.

Watch out for flicker on that LCD.
