Best Free/Cheap apps for Windows XP?

by Grimpslaw / April 1, 2004 2:23 PM PST

I'm compiling a list of apps to install on WinXP (or any Windows system) and looking for suggestions to add to the list. The only criteria being that they are free, or cheap (10 dollar range) and aren't games or OS update.

A sample list I have now would be:

AVG Anti Virus
Winamp
Trillian
Leech FTP
Spybot
Quicktime

Anyone have any other ideas?

I don't use FTP due to an issue with clear text passwords and Quicktime just won't behave for me. Your choice on those.

My list would add:

HPGURU's HOSTS file
Adaware
Cwshredder
powarc611.exe (last free version)
Mozilla (Use as much as possible.)

I downloaded a free trial of desktop notes and liked it so well I sent the $15.00 to purchase it. I leave nmessages to my self and others often. Also Email Stripper, which cleans up thoses messages with all the lines and such before you mail it. (free, by the way)eraser, also free, I use instead of delete to keep hard drive clean. If you buy bonds, Savings bond wizzard is a must.Power Point Reader & Acrobat if you don't have them.
