Question

Best device for working offsite in manufacturing industry

Apr 27, 2016 7:08AM PDT

Plant manager has delegated a task for me to research for the best device (tablet or laptop) for him to work offsite while he is recovering from surgery. I work in a manufacturing atmosphere, where Microsoft office (excel and outlook esp) and internet access are required for offsite.
he is intermediate in computer skills and is familiar with Mac and Windows so either will work. The budget is flexible.
any recommendations?

Re: tablet or laptop

There's no "best" choice in general. It depends on his preferences and on details of what he has to do. The versions of Microsoft Office on a iPad or Android are well-received, but he might prefer a laptop for the keyboard or the possibilities to connect a seperate keyboard and a monitor. Then it's more like a desktop. On the other side, as long as he is bound to bed, a tablet is easier.

Why not use both? Assuming the company already has a laptop he can use for a while, and he already has a decent tablet, the initial costs are zero and he can pick the one that's best for every occasion.

why not try one of those new convertibles like Microsofts Surface Pro 4 or the Lenovo Yoga 900. Those are a laptop and a tablet combined. Use them as you like.
