best deal on macbook pro ??

by AM_SOS / November 20, 2010 2:23 AM PST

hi all !
well the situation is a little tricky so i thought of asking forum people.
i am planning to get the basic MBP 13 inch. i can avail of education pricing so that it will cost me 1099 instead of 1199 $.

however, this being thanksgiving time, and also because i want the apple mouse and KB, i was wondering if and (where ! ) i can get a better deal ...
amazon ?

can someone please show me the ropes about how to get the best deal ?

also is there any risk in buying from stores other than apple ? e.g. could i be sold a refurbished product without my knowledge ?

and finally what is the best deal that i can hope for ? i mean if i am looking at a best price of say 20 $ below the apple education pricing, its really not worth the trouble...

If you go outside the normal channels you do run a risk. YOUR CHOICE.

I rarely see this machine discounted but once in a while a mouse or bad tossed in.

Do you have a MicroCenter near where you live? They sell the base level 13" MBP for $999.

In reply to: Microcenter!

i do and got my MBP from the centre !
happened to call up the apple care team and this guy wouldn't believe me; not even when he saw the offer at the website.
asked me to be alert and confirm that what i am getting is not a refurbished or recertified comp.
i sort of did, and it does look like this is brand new. but then it freezed up on me, and sometimes i am strangely not able to close application windows at the first click. i click on teh white space in the window or elsewhere and then the click works.
wondering a little if i've indeed got an "authentic" machine :o(

On Black Friday, we purchased the MacBook Pro for $1478 from a military base. When we got home our extensive websearch began by looking for the same product on line with a different or higher price. After looking for hours, we only found a $150.00 rebate coupon though we found the exact item. Our research found that the MacBook Pro 375LL/AA is the most recent Mac. We decided to be satisfied with our findings. As far as knowing whether the item is refurbished, we don't know how to know. We are left with a question: what's the difference between a Mac 375LL/A and the 374LL/A. Seabee50

Sadly that's not enough to tell.
