Question

Best cisco switchs?

Feb 25, 2016 1:14AM PST

Hello guys!

we're in a university with 10 SMCs switches 10/100 Mbits Layer 2 distributed in different places in the university

the university recently bought a VRTX with two blades and we are looking to implement a Virtual desktop Infrastructure in our network.

we have 100 Mbits/s bandwith

so based on our demand the switchs we have will not do the work, so we're looking to change all.

that's our simplified architecture
( FO = Fiber optic )

what's your recommended layer 3 new switchs? i think cisco is our best choice here but i don't know which ones exactly ??

further more do you recommend changing all the switchs?

For companies we always recommend to call a certified expert specialised company to look at all details and make a quotation for hardware, software, instalation, setup, instructions and finetuning.

Given the plant size I'm sure they'll work with you.

Hi AtefKouiri,

The Cisco Catalyst 3850-X would be my recommended for a deployment this size. The IP Base and IP Services Licensing options are the models available for layer 3 functions. The IP Base has basic enterprise access layer 3 switching features while the IP Services has more advanced enterprise layer 3 switching (IPv4 and IPv6) features. I would recommend the Cisco 3750-X too but Cisco announced EoL for the series so the 3850 is by now the most scalable solution for you. You can make use of these links for further information.
