Best/Cheapest Option for Helmet camera?

Apr 29, 2008 7:13AM PDT

I've got a Harddrive camcorder that has an AV input, so instead of mounting the camera on my motorcycle I figured it would spend a few bucks to mount a helmet/bullet camera somewhere else.

Im pretty clueless when it comes to camera equiptment/resolution.

Anyone ever been in my shoes or able to point me out to the right equiptment? It has that one AV input, not the RCA calbe inputs. Im looking for decent quality, with audio, for a bargin (<$120) Possible?

PS: I do not want to buy that cheap tony hawk helmet camera or the ACT2 camera thing. thanks.

That AV jack on the 8800 can either
Apr 29, 2008 9:43AM PDT

connect the camcorder to a TV's AV in and playback the content in the camcorder - or if the AV port of the camcorder is switched to AV-in, then you connect the external source - in your case, a helmet cam.

There should be an AV cable that came in the bos. One side is a cable with one side that has a 1/8" jack that looks like a stereo jack, and the other side are RCA male jacks.

A helmet cam will come with RCA male jacks... Just use a RCA female to RCA female adapter.

If the helmet cam also has a built-in mic, get another adapter.

The better video quality will result from lots of lines of resolution... and, as with camcorders, big lens and big imaging chip means more $. For $120, you aren't going to end up with lots of lines of resolution or big lens or big imaging chip.

The link you posted was for an audio adapter...to get both video and audio is there an adapter that I can use to plug all three ends into one, so that it works with my one AV input?

Why would I want to use a female to female adapter when I need a male end to fit into the AV Input hole? Very confused on that one.
Also: What is bos?

I guess I was not clear...

the AV cable that CAME with the camcorder should have one end that plugs in to the camera. The other end is RCA Male.

The Helmet cam will have a cable most likely hardwired to the helmet cam with the loose end being RCA male - one for video and *maybe* one for audio.

There will be male RCA connectors coming from the camera and the helmet cam. To connect them together you need the female adapter in between.

Apologies for the typo. The sentence should read "There should be an AV cable that came in the box." At least, according to this http://www.svp-tech.com/8800/pb.htm it came in the box. Check the grid on the left, right column, 3rd from the top. That cable with the 1/8" jack and 3 RCA male ends... Use it.

Yellow-Video; Red-right audio; White-left audio.

The helmet cam will have a Video connection for sure - you need to make sure it uses RCA jacks... and *if* it has an audio connection, it will be only mono... so you can connect it to either the red or white of the camcorder cable.

You need the female adapter to connect the two male ended cables together.

so it turns out

the cable IS included in the box. Haven't looked in the box since I purchased the camera over a year ago. Solves all my problems. Thanks for the info!

Adrenaline Systems Helmet Cam
Jun 24, 2008 3:37PM PDT

I got the Adrenaline Systems Helmet Camera. It is by far the best I have tried to date. I have tested the GoPro, ATC2K, Jones Cam but the adrenaline systems unit is just awesome.

I have used it on my bike with some great results. It is easy to hook up to my camcorder and DVR.
I Highly recommend it. I have seen these units used on the Track by a couple of video professionals. This is how I found out about their cameras for Car as well as Bikes.

Check out their site at: www.adrenalinecamera.com

Low Resolution - not SONY 580TVL-cam -- Adrenaline Systems
Aug 5, 2008 6:29AM PDT

Don't be fooled, guys! This company sells 420TVL-cam (instead of 580TVL-cam as it advertised.) Ever opened your device? I won't wonder if you found "SHARP-DSPs" in it like in my "580TVL Adrenaline Systems" Cam.

So have you tried to contact adrenaline systems concerning your camera not being a sony as advertised?

Please let me know as I bought the 580ex a few months back but never bothered to look in it to see which chip it came with.

I might have to hit them up to see what they have to say for themselves.

thx
Adrien

check this out ---- the truth about helmet cam resolution!
Aug 8, 2008 10:51PM PDT

hey, check out my site for the truth about helmet cam resolution here:

http://stuntcams.com/shop/product_info.php/cPath/25/products_id/46

i put this up for benefit of the public. whoever bought a fake SONY helmet cam from Adrenaline Systems should ask for a full refund. their cams are not 580 or 600 tv lines (nonexistence) no such things! Sony should simply shut down and suit this company for all sort of b/s and fraudulent claims.

Don't belive these peddlers....

Don't believe everything you read on the web. These same guys have been posting all over. Pretty obvious was website they are trying to promote based in the stuntcams url.
My bike club has used Adrenaline Systems cams for the last couple of years with no problems. They are all SONY and work just great.
It sucks there ae so many low lifers on the web just trying to peddle their junk.
Stick to quality stuff and you will not be sorry.

Adrenaline Systems Helmet Cams are Cheap China Imitation
Nov 12, 2008 12:50PM PST

I just purchased one of these cameras from Extreme Guys on Ebay, there are several other names they go by but I suspect they all sell the same junk. These are not Sony ExView bullet cams as advertised, I know I own many Sony ExView cameras and the picture quality is magnitude better than the camera Adrenaline Systems is pushing.

So.. if not then who?

I have a TRV900 miniDV that allows for Svideo and A/V miniplug in.
What bullet cam will give me the best video with the most flexibility?
