Docking Stations

There are too many variables to say which is best.
I doubt that onyone has tried all the combinations of docking stations. I have never seen anyone attempt a review of the subject.

When you use a docking station, you are usually stuck with using the software that the camera maker provides.

The quality of this software ranges from poor to good.

Some docking stations include extra batteries, some do not.

Some cameras require docking stations to accomplish some functions, such as attaching to your TV.

Some cameras do not have a USB connection and you must have a docking stations.

Some cameras can only charge their batteries through the docking station.

You can also buy a card reader and then you never have to connect your camera to the computer. Then you can use Windows Explorer to move the photo files to the computer.

I do this and create a folder named with the date and info.
e.g. 20050427Horses
The simple way to catalog your photos.

I have a few docking stations.

The home collection contains these with docks.

- DX3500 (Old, but listed here)
- HP 812 (nice unit)
- DX6490
- DX7590 (I like it)

I am not limited to using just what software comes with said Kodak docks since the cameras appear as a drive letter and one can drag files out if they wish.

These units were obtained from newegg.com or compgeeks.com in factory refurb and sealed boxes on average over 100 bucks less than retail stores (even on sale.)

The DX3500 is something I loan out in hopes it won't come back and only works in outdoor daylight well. Don't look for one of those. The others are nice units.
