Best 2tb drive for the money?

Aug 17, 2010 5:58AM PDT

Dont need anything portable, quite, or pretty. Just a solid 2tb drive that will hold my backups and doesnt autoinstall any wonky software. Surely, I can get a cheap WD Elements drive or something like that (downside: wonky proprietary software ala Mybooks, etc) but perhaps you know of something cheaper or better around the same pricepoint?

thanx!

Personlly I don't think there are any "bad" brands.

Lately I bought 2/3 and it's Hitachi and they seem to be doing ok. I had all kinds and only once I felt I had a bad harddrive, and that was a "bigfoot", I forgot which co. made that now.

ROCSTOR DRIVES ARE AWESOME
Jan 14, 2011 3:14AM PST

Old thread, but if anyone is interested, I ened up going with the 1TB Rocstor drive called the RocPro. By now, this is not a new drive, but its been rocksolid, even on a PC lappy connected with USB (its slowest standard). This thing is not cheap, but I always say you get what you pay for. I bought it because instead of jerking me around, the guys are rocstor actually TALKED ME OUT OF BUYING ONE OF THEIR MORE EXPENSIVE DRIVES. And by the language of the sales guy, and the fact that he wasnt a sales guy, but an engineer, who took the time to advise me even though I had called the wrong department, even giving me retailers to order from, I knew I liked this company. And of course, most importantly, the drive IS. ROC. SOLID. quiet and beautiful were just bonuses, because most importantly the thing is built like a brit shickhouse, if you know what I mean. The thing i really needed was that the RocPro has all connection types applicable to my audio recording rigs, including eSATA and FW800. But even if your just on some prosumer stuff and want a solid desktop drive for backups, i highly recommend rocstor drives...I just ordered thier eSATA card from eCost for a great price. So yes, rocstor rocs, and while more expensive than some competitors, you do get what you pay for. Thanks for your advice and thanks for reading...
