Benefits of doing project management certification?

I don't believe in certification but want to do smart work, still I found Project Management certification is required to move to next step of career. Can anyone suggest?

Sadly this is often the premise for those that SELL certificates to get folk to buy them. The best certificates you can have in project management are prior projects. Those are your best certificates.

Having done Six sigma for years.

Only those that sell six sigma products tend to push for more certs and training to solve the failures of six sigma.
