Belkin Notebook Expansion Dock - Does not work

Dec 1, 2006 5:31AM PST

I've got a Dell XPS M140/Inspiron 630m and I just recieved the Belkin Notebook Expansion Dock (F5U265) and it will not work as it suppose to. I connected my Sony 37" plasma via DVI-HDMI adapter and my Sony HTIB with a Toslink cable. Nothing appears on my screen and I only get two channels of sound out of it. When I email Belkin's tech's their response was:

"Check to see if your laptop supports 5.1 surround sound, some sound cards in laptops are only stereo. Our docking station only supports the higer resolution if your video card already has this support, since you are currently using a Plasma television, test it with a PC monitor instead to see if you get any other options. Your laptop may only be able to support 800X600 when using a television display."

If this dock only supports laptops which already have 1600x1200 and 5.1 output, what's the point? They made it sound like it it replaces your inadequate video and sound card so you can turn your laptop into a media PC but all it really basically does is let you add a second display.

I'm returning it and waiting for the iTV.
