Being near the tv isn't a problem, how about picture quality

Apr 3, 2006 8:26AM PDT

I currently have my computer hooked up to my TV for all my media. I also have two 200 gb external hard drives so that isn't an issue. How about picture quality? Will it go down the drain once I rip my dvd onto my comp.? Thanks.

Probably

since dvd movies when ripped only have a resolution of 480p because of copyright issues. Once the new formats come out they will still have that kind of restriction.

Personally, I've never been a fan of the whole hook up your computer and use it as your surround sound idea. I don't mind hooking up my laptop to my tv once in a while to surf the net but other than that, a computer and a home theater system shouldn't be put together, it defeats the whole purpose.

Why do this???? You can play your DVDs in your computers DVD drive, DVD playing software does a great job of scanconverting your DVD picture quality. DVDs look better on a computer because of this.
When you rip you will have a bunch of video and audio files, the quality will be good but they won't play like a DVD would. John
