When problems occur when you move something, twist, push, etc., it sounds like an intermittent connection. You mentioned moving the screen but you didn't say whether it was hinge movement or if you have some pivot type. If it's hinge movement, you have a ribbon cable that runs from the main body of the laptop up to the screen. It has several flat wires and they are subject to stress fractures from constant bending. The cable will plug into the MB but might be hard soldered to the screen. If that's the case, a technician would want to change out the whole screen because that's about the only way you can get the ribbon cable. A technician might not even have the soldering skills to do that kind of work even if he could harvest the cable from another device. If that's the case, you'd be buying a screen to get the attached cable...unfortunate but that's the real world.
Hey everyone,
I bought an alienware 17 on late 2013. It was a graduation gift. Anyways, i started having some screen related issues with it. It all started a couple of months back, when i first noticed that when i moved my screen, the camera sometimes got disconnected. (Not sure if it has anything to do) however, just turning on the camera back on on skype, etc. Did the trick. Then, sometimes when i moved the screen back and forth a little, it went a little bit weird, screen contents turned greenish. One day, when I was installing mods on skyrim or something, i saw my computer screen went off, and my second screen on hdmi kept working. Trying to turn it back on, i tried restarting and it wouldnt Post, boot. I got the 6 beeps, alienware code for "something wrong with my screen".
I opened it all up, took out the hard drives, ram, and booted it, and it worked again. Later on, i got the same problem. I fixed it once more, but some time later, when i had the problem again, screen didnt go on anymore. However, the backlight does work. Now, i have been using my laptop for some months plugged into two external screens, and it works. Now, on friday, i have to take my laptop to college, so i wanted to repair it. The man says that the screen is broken and he had run tests, so its 250 euros to repair my full hd screen. That is quite alot of money, and I wanted to know whether I should get a second opinion, maybe its something with my graphics card or a cable and he just wants some extra money from the kid whose parents could afford an expensive laptop?
Thanks a lot for any help!
