beginner help--iphoto

Jun 8, 2007 5:05AM PDT

well after reading some of the threads I believe I have screwed up my iphoto massively. I have been deleting things from the library folder and moving things around . Now when I look at the library folder, I see a large number of thumbnails and some thumbnails that are simply blank gray boxes. When i click on the box, however, I see the original photo. IF I make some change to the photo (adjust exposture etc) and close it the thumbnail is back up. But I don;t have time to go through the hundreds of grey boxes making miniscule changes.

Is there anyway to get all my thumbanils back?

First I have to wonder what you were doing wandering around the library folder and doing your editing.
All you editing should be done inside iPhoto and not by delving around in the iPhoto library folder in your Pictures folder.
What do you see when you open iPhoto, not the folders?
There should be a large window with pictures on the right side and a list of albums on the left hand side.
The top album should say Library and the next is probably "Last Roll"

What do you see?

gray boxes

exactly what you describe -- a panel of thumbnails to the right and hundreds of thumbnals. BUT amongst these thumbnails are thymbnail gray boxes. dozens of them...some in order, some not. If I click on one of these gray boxes I then see the picture that the thumbnail gray box was "covering." And if I edit the picture then when I go back to thumbnail mode, the picture appears as a thumbnail.

However if I make no changes, when I click "done" the gray box appears.

Bascially I'm missing the thumnails of about three hundred pictures. Is there any way to get the thumbnails back without editing the picture?

The pictures in the RH pane are not thumbnails, although they may be small, they are the actual pictures. At the bottom of the window there is a sliding, left and right, button which makes those small pictures big and vice versa.

I'm not sure I completely understand what you are explaining here. Can you take a screen shot and put it up somewhere like www.flikr.com

My iPhoto page looks like this:

gray boxes redux

I spent an afternoon just clicking on the gray placeholders (boxes) which opened pictures. Making a minor change and saving. The pictures are now back where the gray placeholder/frame/box were. I don't have flicker so don;t have the ability to send a screen shot. Thank you

Did my iPhoto look anything

like your iPhoto?

Flickr is a free service. Just sign up and post when you want.

It comes in handy sometimes, especially as this forum does not provide for images

Glad you got it sorted though

This happened to me

This same thing happened to me. Try resizing the photos in iPhoto. If you make them bigger or larger the problem should go away. I don't know a permanent solution though other than changing the size. As soon as you return the photo size to default the same problem is back.
