Beeping sound

Oct 11, 2004 12:47AM PDT

Hello there, ive searched the forum regarding the beeping sound on boot up but still unclear. Im fixing an old pc a AMD 475mhz. some of the parts could be old/failed, anyways when i booted it up..it gives a beeping sound, beepbeep........pc did boot up..recognize the video and sound card...even detected the hard disk...but the beeping sound still occurs. Ive read on the previous post saying that its a hardware failure or failing. So what hardware failure could result in the beeping sound? Besides hard disk( i remove the power supply to the hard disk but the beeping continues) the Ram?sound card? video card? Thanks in advance

My computer was doing the same thing. I found the cpu fan was not running like it should. I replaced the cpu fan and the beeping stopped.

hehe it still beeps with the keyboard unplugged. Hmm i thought the cpu fan too but it was running fine....unless its not as normal as it should be? Found some possibilites from the internet that it could be video memory or the ram. couldnt be the video card coz i swopped around 2 cards. I'm gonna try the ram tonite after "borrowing" from a friend. SD ram are becoming obsolete. Keep yer fingers crossed for me. keep u guys updated. thanks for the help so far Happy

If you can identify the motherboard manufacturer and model #, you may be able to find the manual for the board on the mfg. website. The manual should contain the beep codes to help you interpret the cause of the problem.

Well i took all the cables out..ide and power cables..and put it back again(swapping the ide cables from another pc.). Secondly the cpu fan was not plugged into the motherboard but to a card that has 4 sets of 2 pins for up to 4 fans. And i guess the mobo did not detect that the fan was running..until i took the card out and saw a reset button!!! GRR...so when the beeping sounds came on..i press the reset button..and voila...sounds disappeared. So it could be that or the ide cables. Thanks all for all the help! Btw i did got the mobo model its an Asus...ernie. great website they hv. all the models manual are there!
