Been hacked

My wife's hotmail account has been hacked and is sending out thos distress messages thet she is in a foreign country and needs help. She tried signing on but her password is not working. What to do?.

once there make a choice and follow the prompts

Once she can again access her account make certain that she changes her password to a stronger one composed of upper and lower case characters as well as some numbers and if possible other characters such as # ~ - _ . (I can't remember if hotmail allows such but she can try and if it doesn't it will indicate the password is no good)
