I think I will stick with my old 811. With VOOM, the hi-def package and 8 local hi-def channels I have pleanty of channels to watch Also Dish sent me a new 811 and its been working great. Anyway just fired up my new Blue Ray player awsome picture and sound BUT the difference between the 1080I i get from dish and 1080P from blue ray there is very little difference in picture quality 1080P does look a tad better overall but my 72" Blobshia is so huge and on a smaller screen size you should see no difference steweee
Replaced my 811 receiver with the VIP622 about 3 weeks ago and just wanted to post my opinions and observations.
This is a dual tuner DVR, so you can record one program while watching another or you can watch a recording while you record 2 more programs at the same time.
You can hook a second TV (standatd def only) in another room. You can record, playback and watch TV on that set independantly from the main TV.
You can scan your local Hi Def stations into the receiver and they are more stable and give me a higher signal strength than the 811 did. They also load faster than the 811.
You can use the USB port to download digital pictures to view on your TV as a slideshow
There is an ethernet port on the back of the receiver-for nothing. I assume that there may be some computer interfacing in the future(????)
With this receiver, the HD programming package has 26-27 different HD channels and if you get local programming, that is in HD also.
You can set up programs to record once, every day or week at the same time, all episides or new episodes only. You can also searc for a title and it will record it when the program gets broadcast.
I no longer get that dreaded screen where the 811 was downloding the channel guide or looking for service.
None really. Would loke a larger hard drive. Records 200 hours of SD, but only 30 hours of HD content.
You do get good clear HD with it. and it does not cost anything extra.
Limited HD programming. Even with Voom added, you only get about 1/2 the channels and at about the same total cost.
Do not get local channels in HD
OTA stations get dropped more often then the 622 (signal lost)
Just a comment about the local stations. First of all, the locals from Dish are not quite as sharp and the colors are not quite as good as I get using the antenna. I also get some occasional pixilation from Dish and virtually never from the antenna. The local stations that you scan in do not show up on the second TV, only the Dish locals downconverted to SD.
The only downside is that you have to agree to 2 years of service to get this receiver. I have had them for about 10 years, so what is two more?
