Bearshare Program

I have just finished removing a program from a friends computer. The program high jacked the home location each time the internet was started. No matter how you attempted to change it the Bearshare program inserted its own URL. This laptop also began to go into some sort of sleep mode and could not be overcome without running in Safe Mode. The Control Panel did not want to open and the computer was slower than usual.

I manually removed the Bearshare program and its minions. I also mad sure there were no startup routine in MSCONFIG for Bearshare. After rebooting the computer everything came up as normal.

This thing was acting like a virus but the anti-virus does not see it as such. It apparently appears as a normal program to the anti virus.

The laptop runs XP.
