BDP-1600 wont play disc

Aug 19, 2009 11:24PM PDT

I installed a BDP-1600 and it would not play the new Iron Man movie on Blu-Ray. I did the firmware update through a wired connection and everything seems to work fine but it still will not play the movie.

MatrixS&V,

Are you able to get to the splash screen? The menu? How far are you able to get?

It loads up fine and i can even scroll through netflix but Iron Man does not load. I am calling the client today to see if he has any other problems. Will one of your tech guys be at CEDIA this year?

MatrixS&V,

More than likely yes. Usually you can ask for the person handling the specific product lines.

Do you have any ideas for why Iron Man will not play on the player?

MatrixS&V,

I don't. It could be a defective disc, or a defective unit. Are other discs able to play?

BD-P1600 won't play Iron Man
Aug 28, 2009 1:16PM PDT

I have the same problem. I bought a new BD-P1600 last week. I rented Iron Man from Blockbuster, inserted the disc and got a blank screen. I returned the disc to Blockbuster and got another one - same problem again. I tried to update the software and the player replied that all s/w is up to date. I've looked on line and a number of other people are experiencing exactly the same problem, both with Iron Man and with a number of other Blu Ray discs. This is clearly a player problem. What to do????

villahill,

We are keeping track of the discs that people have trouble playing. Our Blu-Ray specialist and I have created a forum where this information can be posted. If you would, take a moment so we can collect these titles, test them and recommend fixes.

In the meantime, I apologize for the inconvenience.

OK. I entered my data on your spreadsheet. Please note that mine was the first entry of "Iron Man: The Movie" even though I found at least a dozen posts on various on-line discussion groups from BD-P1600 owners who could not play this same movie.
Do you have any idea about the root cause of this problem and whether it can be fixed quickly? If not, I need to return my player and get a different brand (certainly not my preference).
Thanks,
Villahill

Same IronMan issue
Aug 29, 2009 12:09PM PDT

I am having the same problem with ironman blu rays. I have the BD-1600 also. I wish I had saved my box so I could return this unit. Samsung will you take it back? It's less than 35 days old.

Thanks for the update

I appreciate your promptness and candor. If the problem is that individual studios are creating new java code and not notifying you, will all other blu-ray players also experience problems, or is this peculiar to Samsung? Do you expect to come up with a systemic solution or will this have to be a movie-by-movie fix? I like your player so I'll stick around for a couple to weeks to see what happens.
Thanks.

Thanks for the update

villahill,

Well, one manufacturer also owns one of the major studios, so I wonder what advantage that affords them. Outside of that, it's on a case by case basis.

At some point, I believe there will be a standard. This is the rough part where different ideas are being implemented from different studios, and we have to come up with the resulting compatibility after the release.

In the meantime, I can't promise that the next firmware will fix all of the issues. Do I believe these issues will be resolved? Yes. But I don't have a timeframe for when each individual issue will be resolved.

Thanks for your kind words.
