BD Wise question

by mc959 / June 16, 2009 9:35 AM PDT

I'm a bit confused about the BD-Wise setting on my BD-P3600. For Blu-Ray it seems to do fine and appears to set optimal settings on my LN52B750. However, when playing back some DVDs, the TV reports that it is getting a 480i signal from the player. If BD-Wise is supposed to set the "optimal" resolution, why is it outputing 480i instead of upconverting it to 1080p? When I shut off BDW and force the resolution to 1080p, the image looks better than when running BD-Wise. To add to the confusion, not all DVD's are coming up at 480i, Star Trek 6 came over at 1080... no idea why this would be different given the source.
