i just bought the ht-c555 and i am having problems with the upscaling too.
since my tv does not support bd wise... i change the resolution manually... but changing it from 576 to 720 to 1080i to 1080p doesn't seem to do a thing!!!! i played the same dvd to my ps3 which has upscaling and it did upscale it...
i m starting to think the dvd player doesn't provide upscaling.
I recently bought the Samsung HT-C555 home theatre system to compliment my Samsung LA32C530 LCD TV.
The standard setup included the supplied HDMI connected directly to the TV (HDMI 2). I also have a DStv HD decoder connected directly to the TV via HDMI (HDMI/DVI 1)
Although the HT-C555 features BD-wise, the LCD TV does not and I was lead to believe that the HT-C555 will automatically upscale DVD playback to optimum resolution.
My first concern is that the TV info bar registers the resolution of 720 x 576 when a DVD is played through the home theatre system. I would have expected to see better resolution with the so-called ?upscaling? of the signal. ( My decoder registers a better resolution of 1280 x 720 !!)
As noted earlier, I understand that the BD-wise setup is grayed out and set to ?OFF? as the LCD TV does not support BD-wise, however the RESOLUTION setting can be manually changed to a higher setting (576 > 720 > 1080i > 1080p) Having said this, it would seem the logical assumption to increase the resolution for a better picture. Unfortunately, the LCD screen flickers and flashes with any higher setting other than the 720 x 576 !
I am not particularly happy with the general picture quality with this ?fixed? resolution and would like to know if there is any way to improve the overall picture performance.
