First of all, thanks for taking the time to post your feedback. We're always looking at ways to improve so that we can create solutions for people. This kind of attention to detail is very much appreciated, and I will be happy to summarize your points and send it to the appropriate departments.
I would like to address some of the points, and look forward to your response.
The widget providers - ultimately - do get to choose the features that are on the BD-P4600 - and other Samsung players, specifically with how their widgets operate. So with that in mind, there isn't always something Samsung can do to improve a widget's feature, but we do talk extensively with our partners and share feedback with them.
Pandora on the computer - also - will not allow you to replay or rewind songs. So even on the computer, if you wanted to hear that song again, you'd have to give it a "thumbs up" and wait for it to come around in rotation again. Using the PC, I tried to type in "Luka" by Suzanne Vega, and the first song was from the Red House Painters, then a different song by Suzanne Vega that wasn't "Luka", followed by the Kinks and Nik Kershaw. So if you were able to get the song by typing it in - and get it immediately - then you're doing better with the BD-P4600 than I am with the PC. I'm not sure how Pandora would respond to the request, but I'm all for passing it up to people who can ask.
YouTube's limitations were set by YouTube when it came to the number of results allowed. I don't know why that is, but just for feedback's sake, how many favorites would the average person have? Besides "unlimited", which is always the ultimate answer.. How many favorites would you want?
Thank you for submitting your ideas. This is always welcome stuff, particularly for the development people who are constantly asking me what features people are looking for.
So I picked up a BD-P4600 on a Black Friday sale @ Best buy to match my 52" ToC 650 LCD TV. Got everything up and running, connected to my wireless network and it all works as advertised. Yet I can't help feeling let down with the over simplified, yet control lacking e-content features, specifically Pandora & Youtube.
Pandora's bookmark feature will bookmark songs for your PC account only. It is utterly useless on the BD-P4600 side of things. You also cannot select a song. Sure you can manually type in the name of the song tediously with the remote but I'm referring to simply arrowing up or down in the list of songs already played. It won't let you. So if I really liked that song that just played and want to hear it again through the BD player, I'm out of luck and can only bookmark it for later play on the PC. This over-simplicity makes things like listening to music over-complicated on the user end.
This is the feature that I was most looking forward to, which is probably why it's the feature I was most let down by.
The BD-P4600 is obviously set up for the "most viewed", "most popular" Youtube videos. Fine, but not everyone wants to watch Shane Dawson & other Youtube partners. You can search for videos, however the BD-P4600 is limited to 20 results total. So if you were searching for a video thats part of a playlist of several parts, (1 of 10 for example) you most likely will not have enough search results to display all parts. More than one user may have the series uploaded so your search results may display 3 part 1's etc.
I thought that by adding them to my favorites may get around this limitation, but no. My favorites are also limited to 20 total videos. (the most recently added) 5 pages of 4 each.
Another oversight was linking to your favorites when logged in, but not your own uploads. I personally don't know anyone who adds their own videos to their favorites list. Usually they add other peoples videos to their favorites. So if I wanted to play my own Youtube videos for someone visiting, I would have to either add them to my favorites with the 20 video limitation (seriously, why the 20 limit) or do a search for my own videos even though I'm logged in to my own account!
In closing, the BD-P4600 is a really solid player. The e-content features are good but could be much much better with only a few changes.
*Ability to select previous songs played - up/down control of song list
*Working bookmark in player
* Menu link to ones own video uploads, not just favorites when logged in
* More than 20 search results / 20 video limit in favorites etc.
Hopefully Samsung will improve upon these features down the road so I wanted to share my thoughts about which aspects could use the most improvement.
Thank you for your consideration.
