BD-P1500 AVCHD playback

Dec 10, 2008 6:04AM PST

Hello. I am wondering what settings thay a avchd video must be encoded with in order to play in my bd-p1500. I need to know the level (eg 4.0, 4.1, 4.2, 5.0, etc) and the audio. I have a 720p video camera but the videos do not play in it. That is fine because I can just change the settings and reencode them. I would also like to know what audio will be accepted.
Also, dvd+r burnt things play fine in my bdp1500 even though the book says that they should not. Does avchd need to be on a dvd-r?

Please let me know, I am tired of wasting media.

Syco54645,

Quite honestly, I have no idea. I've sent this up to see if I can get an answer on it. I'll report back as soon as I hear something.

In the meantime, if anyone else on the forum has experience with this, please share!

Dec 31, 2008 3:58AM PST

I just got the BD-P1500 for Christmas and I too cannot play AVCHD discs. The latest 2.1 firmware is installed in the player.

I found your page previously, and tried your technique for writing the AVCHD disc before posting here. It didn't work for me.

Experiment with Partial Success
Jan 4, 2009 7:26AM PST

I continued to experiment this weekend and here's what I've found.

I've been using Roxio Creator 2009 to export AVCHD. My first attempt was to create an AVCHD-on-DVD disc without menus. The BD-P1500 accepted the disc, the screen went black, and then the player just sits there with "LOAD" showing on the display. All the action buttons on the remote are met with the "not allowed" icon on the TV.

Then I tried a second disc, this time WITH a menu. Same initial response from the player -- black screen, display stuck on "LOAD". However, with this disc, the "Disc Menu" button on the remote works and it takes me to the menu created in Roxio. From there, I can play the movie.

So, this does indicate the BD-P1500 will play an AVCHD disc on DVD, even with the 2.1 firmware, but it's very fussy.

Dec 14, 2008 5:19AM PST

but i do not have a ps3, i have a bd-p1500. i have gotten it working now. samsung really needs to get the player more compliant with the avchd standard, even if it is not finalized...

How?

What standard did you use, or was it something else?

here is a guide that i made
Dec 14, 2008 7:10AM PST

Here is a guide that I have made. http://bd.splra.org. I also put up the old firmware for my player that works with regular avchd discs. I got the avchd_lewer.zip from some german forum. Can you nudge the engineers to get some standard avchd into this player? It would be great if that worked, and played my british (region 2) dvds of phantasm... region free dvd would be great Wink
