bd-c6900 hdmi issues

Aug 21, 2010 6:11AM PDT

Hi
go my new BD-C6900 2 days ago.
But I'm having issues getting it to work via HDMI.
When i boot the player i get get a 420p image on my tv for a few seconds.
When connected with Composite Video it works like a charm. I've tried 5 different hdmi cables, with the same result.

This video shows what's going on when i boot the player with hdmi connected to my tv: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYWd-xAOOYQ

Any ideas what this can be?

mathisen,

Try connecting it to the TV with a composite (yellow video) cable first. With that cable and selected input, you'll be able to navigate the menu, and go to your Video menu, and raise the resolution to 720p, 1080i, or 1080p. From there, your result with HDMI should be much better.

Does that help?

Thanks for reply.
Already tried that, can't go higher than 1080i with composite it seems.
But the problem still remains.

mathisen,

But are you able to get anything through "other than" the composite? What's the max resolution of your TV?

Composite video is working as intended, hdmi gives a picture for a couple of seconds during boot of the player.
Haven't tried Component video.
The max res of my tv is 1920x1080, watching 1080p videos from my computer without any problems.

mathisen,

Is it connected directly to the TV? Or through an AV receiver?

If it's connected directly to the TV, I might recommend having the unit serviced. If it's through an AV receiver, then that may be the issue. It should connect to the TV with 1080p, and assuming you have a 1080p TV, it should work. 5 HDMI cables of different manufacturers is pretty extensive, so I'd probably rule out the cable, as long as it's rated HDMI 1.3 or higher.

Same issue with two units
Aug 23, 2010 11:40AM PDT

I had the same issue with a C6900 I bought on the weekend, I exchanged it for another unit and had the exactly the same problem with the second unit.

I am using it with a Panasonic Viera high def television.

Iguess31,

Now that is interesting, I've got a panasonic tv myself.
Maybe a new unit won't help me either.

Same issue with two units

guess31,

The splash screen may boot with a 480 signal, but what signal do you get after it goes to the menu? Is it staying in 480 resolution when you play a movie?

Same issue with two units con't
Aug 25, 2010 4:35PM PDT

After the boot screen my televission is basically blank but in the top left corner is HDMI2 (which is the input I was using for the player) and under this flashes 1080P every few seconds. Occassionaly the screen flashes up with pure noise for a faction of a second.

If I insert a DVD disc (I could not try with a blu ray disc as I do not have any) I do not get any of the disc intro animation but evantually the DVD menu screen may come up (but not always) and at this point I can watch the DVD and I can also get the player menu to come up.

After 2 goes with the C6900 I gave up and exchanged it for a player from a different manufacturer.

samsung c6900 output resolution issue
Nov 1, 2010 3:11AM PDT

Hi there!
same problem here.

I have connected direct to SONY LCD 32" which support 720p. But, even if you set the resolution in 720 or less, the blank screen appear after reboot.

The only solution i found is have a disc inserted every time you turned on.

Also notice that with some You tube videos in full screen and some divx occurs the same. The movie is running because i can hear it but the the shows " no signal " or something

anyone have solved this issue?

pablogiorgini,

The input switches from HDMI-2 to HDMI-3 if I'm seeing that correctly. The black screen is a different HDMI port.

Does anyone have this happen where it stays on the same input?

im not sure if i understand your answer, but i?m not switching hdmi port.

all occurs in the same hdmi imput. In fact, if i click disc menu, the disc menu start and i can see the image again.

If i start the blu ray player without a movie on it i get the error message

reboot
Nov 8, 2010 8:21AM PST

Mine was doing the same thing and i tried resetting the player by holding down the stop button but that didn't work. As a last resort i unplugged the power cable for 10 seconds, plugged back in and it started working. I thought, shoot - if i send it in to samsung as an RMA it will be unplugged for a few days, i should try that. Knowing my luck when they got it and plugged it in to test it would work...and that's what happened. So i'm glad i tried that but also i wish it would just stop working permanently so i could get a replacement or, fingers crossed, this never happens again.

So, in short - unplug it from ac power for a little bit and see if it works again.

will try
Nov 8, 2010 9:54PM PST

i?m gonna try that for sure.
but i think that when i carry it home it?s been more than 10 seconds unplugged.

so i think it all ready been "reseted" when i plugged for the first.
any way, today i?ll test it.

thanks!!

it seems that samsung dont answer any more.
it's like one tip per user and no more!!

unplugging - why is the subject necessary when replying...
Nov 9, 2010 3:12AM PST

My c6900 was doing the exact same thing as the video posted. If yours is still doing it after having been unplugged, i think you have a good case for an RMA (hopefully it's still in warranty). I would have liked mine to have still not worked so i could've returned it for another one. I'd hate for this to work for 3 months, happen again, unplug power cable and it works for another 3 months until the warranty was out.
BTW, my tv is a samsung, so i don't think it relates to having a Panasonic and is an issue with the player.

My fix
Mar 5, 2011 6:01AM PST

I had the same issue...

The initial setup screen seems to use a display p mode that isn't initially compatible with my TV in HDMI mode. So I used the supplied AV cables instead to run through the whole setup process (was still connected to HDMI and had the blank screen on TV HDMI channel). Once I ran through the initial country and internet settings, I then selected a non-auto image setting that worked with my TV, and it all worked fine.

Hasten to add I use this with another HDMI device, and the TV seems to hate switching between 'live' devices. It all works fine if I go to HDMI2 first and then turn the Blue Ray on.
