Battle Chess

I can't get sound on this old application because it says that for digitized sounds I have to run windows in standard mode. I remember you could do something like this on more ancient versions of windows with win /s, but I don't know how to resolve this problem on XP. Any ideas?

Thanks for the response, that version is actually the very one I have, though that site will probably prove useful enough to me anyway to make this post extremely helpful.

What next?

Let me offer this. Many are not aware that Microsoft doesn't offer any tool to update drivers that works. YOU get to find current drivers for motherboard, video, audio and more.

Some of these old games only run in 256 color mode. Try that.

Do you have the version that is only DOS, or the one that also includes a setup.exe file in the folder MCP BattleChess?

I had trouble with the DOS version on XP, even with vdmsound. The mouse wouldn't work! The Windows version always worked fine for me on XP. You do need an analog cd cable attached from your cd-rom drive to your sound card, and the cd music unmuted in the speaker settings. This is because the game will not utilize the digital audio method used by XP.

Love this old game. Especially the tutorials! The Queen sounds exactly like Lucy Lawless (of Xena Warrior Princess), doesn't she?
