Battery life for Canon Power Shot A710

Jul 29, 2007 3:58AM PDT

I just upgraded to a Canon Power Shot A710 from an older Canon digital camera. I had been successfully using rechargeable batteries with my other camera for several hundred shots/charge. With the 710, the battery light comes on as soon as I put newly charged batteries in and the newly charged batteries only give me 30-50 shots. Anyone have any advice? Is it the camera?

The most common problem is a bad battery.

You need to buy two new NiMH AA batteries and charge them before putting them in the camera.

Are you using the same set of batteries in your new camera ? Do you still get the previous high shots/charge if you use them in the old camera ? Take a look at the ends (especially at the -ve flat end)- are they somewhat dented ? They were a good "fit" for the previous camera, but the contacts may not fit well for the new one. That may be why the battery light (low battery ?) comes on when you put in the batteries. So, get a new set of batteries. BTW, are you using rechargeable AA size NiMH batteries ? If you still have problems, it's a warranty issue.

Is there any way to know what percent of battery life is left? I don't want to wait until the warning light comes on.

(NT) No - Canon only warns just before the battery runs down.
