Battery life effect of ext DVD drive?

Does using ext USB optical drive to watch movies drain battery faster than web surfing? If so, how much? I'm thinking of getting Acer One D250 w/ 6-cell.

I'm seen the CPU meter peg on movie playback so my bet is movie play is going to tap the battery hard.

Another vote for watching movies pulling a bigger plug in your bathtub of battery life. How much? That's hard to tell.
