These items are areas the laptop makers supply drivers or "more information" to give such a feature.
A common mistake I see is to "load the OS" and not have the drivers from the maker. Also, some laptop makers don't give you access to such drivers unless you install from their recovery CDs. Your post lacks information if:
a. You installed the OS.
b. If you've been to Compaq.com for drivers.
I have two Armada 7400s One has had considerable power problems. Both had failed batteries. After purchasing new batts, the good machine sees the batteries and in a short time will bring them to a full
100% charge, while showing the charge process and immediately recognizes battery presence.
Both units are running Win 2000. The problem machine is also running Win Me. The Me will recognize the batt and show %of charge and indicates that charging is in process however the charge never goes up. The win 2000 on this unit does not immediately see the batt. Sometimes removing and reinserting will cause the batt recognization, however does not show any charging.
I have changed the two batts between the two units and the better machine always sees the batt and brings it to full charge.
Is this a software or hardware problem?
