Basic Video Editing.

Oct 5, 2005 1:24PM PDT

Can someone recommend a basic video editing program for a newbie.

I've been editing audio for years, but never attempted video editing.

I'd like to be able to do some basic steps, like trimming or deleting bad or undesirable frames and splitting larger files into smaller ones.

I have NEODVD, that came with my capture card. I found it quite easy to master the capturing and burning steps, but the editing is very confusing.

If someone knows of a simpler program to learn, I would appreciate your input.

For trim, split I use VIRTUAL DUB.

Free, documented so I don't answer questions but to note it's one tool I use to trim, split up video files.

For DVD creation Sony Vegas rules, but it's pricey so we don't have many copies. Ulead's offerings are cheap enough to spread around the office.

Thanks Bob

Since I posted this yesterday, I've managed to do some of the basic steps with the neodvd. It's not as difficult as I first thought, but the interface seems somewhat awkward. It will take some practice and getting acquainted with the program.

I'll also have a look at Virtual Dub.

I've also read about Vegas. It looks like a program for the pros, which I'm not. Maybe someday???

I did play with Movie Maker a little, but decided to try other options.
Since my original post, I've picked up a few of the basic skills needed to get the video on dvd.
The more technical aspects will require a little more study on my part.
I will likely be back here later with more questions.
Thanks
