Basic low-cost DSL/broadband

Mar 20, 2008 7:12AM PDT

I'm trying to find a low-cost DSL/broadband service for my mom, who's 75 years old and rarely uses her computer. Perhaps dial-up would be better in her case, but it's so slow, and of course ties up the phone line.

AT&T (the local phone company) said that their DSL is not available in the condo community where my mom lives. She was using Comcast broadband (cable TV), but the high cost of their broadband service was not worth it because of the infrequency of my mom's computer use.

Any suggestions for DSL/broadband options? Or should we stick with a low-cost, but slow, dial-up service such as NetZero?

Here I have comcast and nailed down the 99 buck month deal for 2 years. That gets me cable tv, phone (unlimited calling) and highspeed cable internet.

Is that too much?

If 768k is fast enough, look for Verizon DSL. It is $13 a month for 6 months and $20 a month for months 7-12.
