Barry Bonds closes on Hank Aaron's record.

Jul 28, 2007 2:41AM PDT

All I can say is Hank Aaron made his record without using performance enhancing drugs, to the best of my knowledge. Bonds, on the other hand, may have chemically enhanced his career. If so, can Bonds really lay claim to legitimately breaking Aaron's record?

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Barry Bonds could only chuckle when asked if it had finally sunk in that he's a single swing from history.

"It's sinking," he said.

Bonds hit a soaring drive for his 754th home run Friday night, leaving him one shy of tying Hank Aaron's record.

Hammerin' Hank, he's right behind you now.

I'm not a big baseball fan, myself... just what i hear on the news. However, I do know that it is a sport that lends itself to statistics. There are fans who will spend their time watching a game with notebooks in their hands... carefully noting statistic changing performances. This obsession with stats is what makes me wonder how baseball purists view another record surpassed by a player who had advantages which previous record holders did not have.
